I have wanted to be a UDA camp instructor ever since my first camp. I attented a home poms camp, it was my first year on a team and I had nervous excitement bubbling in my stomach. I have been dancing since I was seven, of course I had taken many classes and camps before my sophmore year of high school, but someting told me this was going to be unlike anything I had expirienced. It was three long days of hard work and sweat and I loved every minute. I knew I wanted to work in the dance world when I was older, and as soon as we started I knew instructing camps like these was what I wanted to do. Teaching fun and exciting new routines to energetic and ambitous dancers is a dream expirience. I love dancing and working hard. Summer dance camps

Of course I shot it down because I always thought that the show was a bad thing...partially because my mom never wanted me to watch it. But, now that I am looking at it in a different light, they are similar in some perspective.…

British Dance: Influential Black Dancers Made an Impact on Britain “Like Britain itself, British dance has been informed by different waves of immigration”, says dance history professor Ramsay Burt (Roy). Ballet “took root” through a determined Polish woman, Marie Rambert, and Irishwoman, Ninette de Valois (Roy). Modern dance was arranged by exiles form Germany in the 1930s and visitors from America in the 1950s and 1960s (Roy). The stories and history of black British dancers however, tends to be left out of British dance history. His or her stories deserve to be told along with everyone else’s.…

“I had always been proud of my body—its strength and grace enabled me to pursue my passions. But now it had become the enemy” (Bried). This is ballet, a wonderful but exhausting, beautiful but horrible art form and sport, and the ones who make the magic happen are the ballerinas. Onstage, they look stunning, all lean muscles and long lines and lovely faces, but backstage and beyond, it’s a different, gruesome story. The ballerina’s body takes a regular beating, every day, and though dancers are true athletes, it is hard for their bodies to keep up with their punishing daily regimen.…

My annual hectic competitive dance showcase started this year as it always has, as a charged and passionate kickoff. That morning, I had been woken abruptly from my peacefully sound sleep by my deafening alarm clock. An obnoxious cry playing a song from the ‘Pitch Perfect’ soundtrack continued to sound until I was alert enough to lurch over and smash the stop button. I immediately made my bed and hopped into my warm-up outfit for the day. My mom had already been awake for some time and we we’re en route to the Milton Performing Arts Center, skipping my breakfast altogether, as this day had always rendered my appetite mute.…

I walk into this medical room filled with people who can’t do the things you do during your daily routine: walking, recalling memories, or carrying on a normal conversation because of situations, all due to something they have experienced, makes me really nervous about what might happen in my life. I used to be able to go where I wanted to go, do what I wanted to do and, aside from small aches and pains, live a relatively “normal” life. However, the demon known as old age slowly crept into my life and took from me many of the abilities that I used to take for granted. After losing my husband to a sudden heart attack and I, myself, suffering a debilitating stroke, my children and I decided that moving into an assisted living facility would…

On the first day of Dance 101 we were asked to write down what dance meant to us, my response was that dance was a personal expression through movement and a way to honor, and keep traditions alive. When I registered for this course I knew I would enjoy it because I love dance but what I got was an amazing journey without going anywhere that has increased my desire to travel the world and explore for myself. While taking this course my view of what dance is has expanded from my initial response to include a way to celebrate, release, entertain, and share you culture with others. Learning the history of dance has increased my appreciation of it because when I watch dancing now I can see the influences from the past and sometimes from other cultures.…
