Summer Camp Goal

Improved Essays
What is a goal to you? A goal is a result or achievement toward which effort is directed. The three tools that have helped me the most were positive, clear, and attainable. These goals can be helpful during a summer camp.
A few years ago, I ran into a situation where I was involved in a kid’s camp. It was my first time leading a young group of girls. The entire situation was challenging to me. The ultimate goal of the camp is to make sure these girls had a good time and would like to come back the following year. The goal seems reasonable, but there were several challenges along the way. Additionally, there were times where we had to mentor to the younger girls, which was a positive affect because it helped them get more confidence and courage

When I initially began Boy Scouts, I largely depended on my brother and his friends for help and assistance. Eventually, my brother and his friends around his age graduated, and while many moved on to serve as adult leaders, all of them eventually left for college. With this large amount of support missing from my usual routine, I felt lost for a significant amount of time, before I participated in a Philmont trek in the summer before my freshman year of high school. During the Philmont trek, as the youngest member of the crew, I felt highly unprepared due to my overall lack of experience with high adventure and large amounts of leadership; however, despite developing a blister on the first day, I found solace with my crew as they taught me valuable skills that would help me survive the journey. From their exemplary leadership and teachings, I quickly learned not only how to help myself, but also how to assist and guide others as a leader.…

Camp is place unlike any other. It is a place that people’s wall begin to fall down and new relationships are formed. This is bound to happen when you drop 200 teenagers in the middle of the Smoky Mountains without any of their electronics. I was lucky enough to be chosen for the Project Serve team and got to see camp from a new perspective. I got to be a part of all of the behind the scenes work, but also daily interactions with all of the campers due to my job at camp.…

My freshman year I took a mentoring class. This class was supposed to help us become better role-models for the younger kids. One of the things to become better mentors was to help the preschoolers. We would go to their classroom and color with them so they would then speak their minds. Another thing that we did was create a “Middle School Survival Guide” for the middle schoolers.…

My responsibility at Camp Mendocino revolved around my ability to guide and encourage youth to participate in various activities and develop their own personal character. As an illustration, one of the youths I have worked with was reserved and quiet. To enumerate, he was not the person to take the first initiative.…

Selected adult volunteers complete the vetting process, including job descriptions and the new county online training. From the results of the online training and camper survey results from the following year, the final training occurring the day of camp reinforces the policies and information identified as poorly understood by the counselors based on the online quiz results and goes over the program, risk management, and job duties. Each year camp is designed so that youth have the opportunity for leadership, responsibility, and caring for others. Camp theme, schedule, and programming are selected by the teen leaders in the beginning stages of camp planning.
