The issue with this is that many districts have a shortage of school facilities, and they are limited to the amount of money they can spend on each of these facilities. To handle this issue, school districts around the world have adopted a year-round school calendar to ensure they are using these existing school facilities to their full ability. It would be almost impossible to hire a teen for one month out of the summer because most businesses search for long-term employees. Also, parents that rely on that working teenager may struggle to get by if their child attends a year-round school. These are just some of the possible outcomes if schools choose to switch to a year-round agenda. This is unacceptable. Allan G. Osborne Jr., a retired principal of the Snug Harbor Community School in Quincy, Massachusetts, expresses that evidence for year-round schools that show improvement are sparse and many educators are reluctant to experiment with year-round school schedules (Osborne Jr. 28).…

School systems have always encountered trouble deciding whether or not to use a year-round education program. There have been studies on the effectiveness on this teaching schedule and most of the results are positive. Other investigations show that teachers themselves enjoy this schedule of learning since it allows them to interact with their students on a more continuous basis, and there is not a gap in curriculum due to summer break. However, students will still have time to rest and relax on the shorter breaks scattered throughout the year. One such study by Ballinger (1987) agrees that “students learn best by a continuous pattern of teaching, practice, reteaching, and more practice, until they finally grasp the concepts being taught”…

Children benefit from year round school because they are not in a hurry to cram everything they need to know for that year in just short nine to ten months. Teachers can slow their speed and actually teach students everything they need to know not just what they need for a test, which seems to be regular in many schools. Students will not forget the education that was taught, for they will not have summer vacation time to forget about school and what they learned from it. Cooper had done experiments on children loosing education while on summer break and his results are stunning, and cooper commented that “most students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the summer months”…
