Summer break is a time were many students look forward to, with its free time to experience many sort of activities with no time limit. Individuals feel relaxed because they are rewarded for their hard work for studying through the years. In a certain extend summer vacation is beneficial to students. Although too much of anything is not good. Long summer vacations will give individuals a loss in academic skills and knowledge over the course of the holiday. With summer vacations ranging to six to fourteen weeks, students face the fear of learning loss. The phenomenon where young people lose academic skills over the summer, is one of the most significant causes of the achievement gap between lower and higher income youth. (Baltimore, 2016). With this phenomenon its leads to many suffering and consequences were individuals develop a significant drop on scores on standardized test, reading and writing skills, and with summer expenses increasing over the years, low income families are being piled up with the bills. Some kids go to camp, summer school or daycare. But a lot of these options are expensive for families with low incomes and have to come up with creative, cheaper alternatives. "When families don't have access to good opportunities and programs, their children begin to struggle in school and feel unsuccessful, leading them on a downward spiral of lost confidence.” (Bosie Weekly, 2016). Entertainment is a major factor for summer, it’s the main reason why students love summer vacation, but when it gets too expensive it blocks the idea of an ideal summer. One way to find a solution is to make summer vacation shorter, while some might find this a terrible idea, it’s a way where they can boost their academic level and help their reduce their family
