Technology is a useful servant, but a dangerous master. If technology takes over all of the simplistic jobs of the working class, what will be the purpose of human beings? This is a question entering every individual’s mind after reading Kevin Kelly’s article “ Better than Human: Why Robots Will - and Must - Take Over Our Jobs”. In this reading, Kelly describes the inevitable future of computers taking over many of the current jobs of the working class. In his article, he effectively addresses many of the pros to this new epidemic, however, he neglects to address the downfalls of computers taking over. Other flaws in his writing include his disregard of the sentiment put behind of hard work and his lack of knowledge of the importance of human

He opens his discussion of computer vs. human works by examining the role both play in the manufacturing industry. He begins his point by stating how computers are more efficient and thorough than human beings. To further this position, he uses the explanation that no individual wants the average, imperfect human to manufacture their car. Instead, many individuals take easement from an computerized manufacturing system and would much prefer to have their expensive car made by a safe and flawless machine. Though I agree with Kelly’s point that computers play a very impactful role in the building of many of our electronic devices, other more simplistic items, such as a blanket or a teacup, contain more sentimental value when they are made by hand. This is one of the many points of view Kelly disregards because of his bias toward electrical machines. While so many things are massed produced in our society, many individuals take alleviation in having a one-of-a-kind product of their own. Hand-made items reflect the value and compassion behind hard work. Giving us a taste of human comfort and connection through this item. Kelly inability to see this significance of handmade artifacts only makes his readers see him as an insensitive, ambition-filled
