Summary: The Wartburg Choir

About one month ago I attended a concert here in the Wartburg Chapel. The concert consisted of two groups, the Iowa State women's choir and The Wartburg Choir. I sat in the upper level of the chapel and it sounded absolutely incredible. I was extremely impressed of ho both of the choirs blended incredibly well and always sounded in tune and on pitch. The Wartburg Choir’s “Ain’t no grave” sent goosebumps to my spine with their unbelievable musicianship and facial expression. The Wartburg Choir was beyond belief on how precise they were with every dynamic level. I personally thought the Iowa States women's choir did not do so well in that category. I believe they were absolutely amazing with the unique different song choice and how gorgeous

The Fisk Jubilee Singers, a group of African American singers was established in 1871 at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. It is one of the earliest and most famous black vocal groups, known for the performance of slave spirituals. Originally known as the Fisk Free Colored School, Fisk University was established in 1865 to educate former slaves with the support from donations of former abolitionists. By 1871, however, Fisk was severely in debt. To save the school, George L. White, Fisk treasurer and music professor then, formed a nine- music choral ensemble of young men and women fresh from slavery and took it on tour to earn money to save their fledgling school.…

On Sunday, June 21st, I went to see the Dallas Symphony Orchestra perform “The Music of John Williams and Hollywood’s Great Composers” at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco. The concert was held in the church’s worship room at 6:30pm. This was a great place for the DSO to perform because the audience and the orchestra were very close and, in a way, felt more personal. The show included fourteen pieces: “Overture to Captain Blood by Korngold, ‘Tara’ – A Short Poem for Orchestra from Gone with the Wind by Steiner, arr.…

On November 12, 2015 I attended the Veterans Day Jazz free form concert held at CBC’s choir room. This was the first time I ever went through the music/art building and it was pretty cool. The choir room looked, well like a choir room; inspirational posters on the wall, instruments, sound system, etc. When I first walked into the room I was bit overwhelmed with the amount of people in the small to medium sized room. There was a total of three high schools performing and of course CBC.…

The event that i am reviewing is the Handel’s Messiah concert performed by The Milwaukee area Messiah community chorus and orchestra. Performed In Mequon, WI, 4 soloists including a large Chorus and Baroque style orchestra performed. Compared to modern-day symphonies I was astonished at the small baroque style orchestra that was historically accurate that which of used in the baroque times. Now, this concert was very baroque in nature and differed greatly from the standard contemporary music played in the church today and tempo/tonality of the performance seemed faster and with a different sound.…

Chase Malcom Honors 201-5 Cultural Event Essay Organ Celebration: More Than Meets the Eye I have always had an affinity in my heart for local symphony orchestras. Of course it makes sense now because I am studying music to make it a profession, but even when I was young, there was something special about seeing a live orchestra concert. All throughout my childhood, my grandma would take me to musical events, such as Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra concerts. I asssume this is a major contributor to my love of music in general, but there is just something special about hearing a piece of music that is hundreds of years old being brought back to life by local musicians right in front of your eyes—or ears.…

Concert Report # 2 Handel’s Messiah Tenebrae with Chamber Choir I have never been to a Handel’s Messiah concert before, so this was a treat for me, and it also was my first professional choir experience. In the beginning, the tenor began to sing, but either his was not working or the acoustics worked against him, because I could not hear him that well. His diction, however, was very crisp, so despite all odds, he did an excellent job. When the choir came in, “And the Glory of the Lord” I really felt the power of the Tenebrae choir.…

I’m sitting alone in the front pew of the University of Virginia Chapel on a cold December night. In front of me there is a tall metal stand with a set of bongos perched precariously atop. Behind me sits the entire crowd of the sold out Virginia Women’s Chorus Candlelight Concert. When I arrived in Charlottesville months earlier, I could have never expected to be here. I have just finished performing a piece with the chorus minutes earlier, when a member of the chorus steps forward and addresses the audience to explain and introduce the next piece.…

At the Faculty Artist Recital held on Sunday at 3:00 a Bach Solo Cantata was sang. In this cantata a basso continuo was present, a harpsichord, and a cello. A basso continuo is an accompanying part that includes a bass line and harmonies, which are typically played on a keyboard. Other instruments such as a cello or bass violin are also present. This type of continuo defines music of the Baroque period, which would make sense as to why this was present in Bach’s cantata that was sang.…
