To many, the brain is seen as the most important organ in the body. The rest of the body sends signals to the brain, the brain processes and interrupts the information, and then brain guides the body to do what is needed. Without the brain, the heart would not pump, the lungs would not breathe, etcetera. Protecting the brain is a thick layer of bone (the skull), several layers of hard membranes labeled as the meninges, fluids, muscles, skin, and other tissues. As expected, an important organ such as the brain is heavily protected.…

The muscular system is the system of the body that contains smooth, skeletal, and cardiac muscle tissue. This system contains a variety of functions including movement of the body and of materials throughout the body, maintenance of posture, and heat production. Muscles are the only tissue in the body that have the ability to contract and therefore move the other parts of the body. The muscular system is important because without it, life would completely stop. The brain controls the contraction of skeletal muscle. The nervous system regulates the speed at which food moves through the digestive tract. The human digestive system is the organ system responsible for extracting nutrients from consumed food items and absorbing the nutritional molecules into the bloodstream. Doing this requires breaking food into smaller pieces mechanically and chemically, so that nutritional molecules are isolated and can be absorbed. This process involves the help of the muscular system.…

According to Liliefend et al., the most important cell within this tissue is the neuron which receives and generates electrical impulses. Comment: I can definitely see the potential connection between the prefrontal cortex and the “social cognition” competency. Finding solutions in our social world requires high road thinking, solving these issues requires problem solving which is a conscious effort. Also, the competency “influence” is potentially relevant.…

Imagine a world where civilization constantly walks the streets, looking down in their hands they hold tiny screens that hold the world. They follow in the same line and routine as the day before like they were in 3rd grade playing follow the leader. Working 50+ hour weeks in small boxes with crowded spaces while the phone rings for the 100th time in the next box over while the boss yells down the hall about company deadlines. Focus on the constant sound of clicking from keyboards, the stench of someone else’s lunch, and the growing migraine from staring at a large screen while shifting in your chair for the fortieth time trying to get comfortable hopefully for a few moments. For some Americans this is what to expect on a day-to-day basis while…
