Summary: The Problem Of Binge Drinking Among Adolescents

The problem of binge drinking among adolescents is prevalent and needs to be addressed. There are two interventions that I feel would be most appropriate to remedy this situation and they are motivational interviewing (unconventional approach) and cognitive behavioral therapy (conventional approach). Motivational interviewing is unconventional, but it is becoming more popular in the treatment of adolescents suffering from an addiction. According to Bride, B., Kintzle, S., Abraham, A., & Roman, P. (2012), this approach is "a collaborative, person-centered form of guiding to elicit and strengthen motivation for change.” In other words, this empowers the client to change by employing a “counseling relationship [which] is more like a partnership
