Summary: The Pathway Initiative Program

Based on the issues raised by the books and research done this semester, college life is changing to career focused training. Between the cost of college and the need for career and job ready employees, college is changing into a vocational and job training centers. Providing students with career pathways. Students that need to work can enter the work force at a livable wage by completing a certificate program that compliments the completion of a two-year degree on the same subject matter. Many pathway programs have direct admissions avenues to four-year school to continue educational requirement for students who want to advance their education and career opportunities.

The Pathway Initiative Programs give students work experience and the ground up concept of businesses and trades. These programs teach students job skills that are needed by industry today and in the future while hopefully developing life long learning traits. Colleges and business will form partnerships to understand the needs of businesses; colleges will gain a better perspective of the educational needs that employees of the future must be able to demonstrate to …show more content…
Southern New Hampshire University has adopted a model that allows some students to spend more time working than sitting in a classroom research papers can be based on real work initiates graduating in three years with a four-year degree. (Selingo, 2013, p. 163) Hopefully students do not lose the ability to explore, and grow by taking classes outside the career specific area.
Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC’s) may replace some core history, social sciences, humanities or art classes but diversity, maturity, culture and appreciations are all skills that have been embedded in education for years they must be maintained as education shifts to specific career ready educational
