Summary: The Issue Of Homelessness

Should our society deliberate on the topic of homelessness? A vast amount of people in America, specifically in New York City, are homeless. The cause of this is usually the loss of jobs, which leads to the loss of homes. Last year there were three million homeless individuals in the United States. The current economic condition is generating a situation where more families are becoming homeless. Homelessness is dreadful and melancholy. There are many opinions concerning the solution of the homelessness in the United States. The following authors have discussed this issue in newspaper articles: In Lunch for the Homeless, a Sacred Mission for Pope Francis by Laurie Goodstein; Amid Cold Weather, Two Different Visions for Helping New York's Homeless by Harry Bruinius; and Operation Night Watch by Gary Davis. Although shelters are considered beneficial, it is not mandatory for a homeless individual to be forced into a shelter if he or she doesn't desire to do so. Whenever people think of homeless shelters, they can’t help but think of how disgraceful it is. Many people lose their privacy, dignity, and freedom when they are in homeless shelters. A vast amount of people in this world are homeless, and the reason for this is loss of jobs which leads to the loss of homes. If things go unchanged, people will eventually be forced to attend a homeless shelter, and not feel comfortable while they are there. I presuppose that it is better to not live in a homeless shelter because it is not safe and unfair. To conclude, people will continue to be unhappy and resistant if efforts are not made to improve homeless shelters. Society looks at the situation of the people on the streets, however, they do not look at the situation of the people in the homeless
