Not very long ago we knew about the protests in Egypt and the eagerness that Egyptians had to overthrow the president from his charge. Similarly, we were able to see and read what was going on in Venezuela when the government has brutally beating protestors and decided to expel CNN from the country after they covered the massacres that were occurring in the country at that time. The Chavez government tried to cover up what they were doing to the students and protestors that went out to the streets. However, they did not realize the power and magnitude that social media has. When an issue becomes public and society is informed about it, power tends to bend. It is been said that knowledge is the key to control and that information also gives us power. If people know what is occurring to immigrants in their own country they could go to social medias and support them. Social Media can definitely help the immigration reform to get passed. If several people begin to use a certain hash tag and they talk about the issue in diverse mediums then the issue most likely will become news worthy. If people do not know what it is really going on with immigrants in the United Sates, it is most likely that they would not support them in social media. However, after they watch this documentary and empathize in a certain way they will support immigrants in the best way they can. Some activists have started to promote a possible change for immigrants. There are several pro-immigration organizations that have used social media to gather followers. The dreamers for instance are very active in Facebook and Twitter. They post their accomplishments and failures. This is a great way to demonstrate to the population what it is their mission and work ethic. It is also a way to be transparent and avoid any possible misuse of information.
