There were 1,986+ anti-Semitic incidents reported in 2017 in the United States. This includes physical assaults, vandalism, defacing Jewish institutions. This is a massive increase from 2016, which had a total of 1,267 reported crimes. These hate crimes were committed all across the country. You may have heard of the Unite the Right Rally, a rally fueled by hate planned for August 12th. General Robert E. Lee, a confederate icon, had a statue that was planned for removal. This caused a great uproar from white supremacists. The rally held a plethora of Nazis, who attended to the event carrying banners disrespecting the Jewish community. It has been reported that poles and other blunt force weapons were brought to the scene of the rally as well. Clearly Anti-Semitic activity has yet to disperse. Although it does seem unlikely that the memory of the holocaust would evanesce, it would be beneficial for the history of the holocaust to not be repeated. In Florida a person was spat on and called a “lousy Jew”. In the same state, anti-Semitic KKK flyers posted all throughout residential neighborhoods terrified residents. In Nevada, “Kill all Jews” gripped attention as the first piece of graffiti people would see walking into this certain public park in Las Vegas. The list goes on and on, and there seems to be a perpetual number of attacks on the Jewish community. As we can see, this degrading of Jews is very vivid and prejudice, but that being said, it doesn’t erase the fact that this behavior is so detectable.
