Summary: The Health Benefits Of Marijuana

BEFORE YOU READ: I am not trying to say that these substances do not have negative effects. All of the experiments conducted in my research were based on prescribed amounts of the substance by medical professionals. Some of these drugs can be very addictive and/or lead to death if not taken in moderation.

Drug use has increased and decreased rapidly throughout time like a roller coaster. Many people believe drugs can only have negative side effects; however, studies have shown that some common party drugs can actually have major health benefits. From slowing down hyperactive parts of the brain that lead to depression to having robust anti-cancer qualities, the potential that is found in many of the very things we've been keeping our kids

What most people don't know is that cannabis is frequently used to relieve chronic pain, prevent episodes of PTSD, treat opium dependence, stimulate appetite, and improve symptoms of Chron's disease. According to the National Institute of Drug Abuse (drugabuse.gov), 317 grants were given to research facilities in 2014 to find health benefits of marijuana. The projects included treating autoimmune diseases (AIDs), inflammation, pain, psychiatric disorders, seizures, and substance use disorders (SUDs). There is no public access allowed to the results of these experiments, however, similar experiments have had optimistic results. In addition to that, the benefits of medical marijuana extend to the treatment of other health diseases including alcohol abuse, spinal cord injuries, cancer, bipolar disorder, depression, Alzheimer’s disease, inflammatory bowel disease, migraines, and fibromyalgia. Medical marijuana is also useful to treating sleep apnea, Parkinson’s disease, sickle-cell disease, and psoriasis. Other "party drugs" with postitive health benefits include ecstacy (MDMA) which has powerful anti-cancer properties and increases energy level; ketamine (an animal tranquilizer) which is commonly used to combat symptoms of depression; and cocaine which can treat minor skin lacerations, since the drug is an effective vasoconstrictor (narrows blood
