To get students involved the contest incorporated all kinds of learning. Hands on learners of the class will benefit the most, because the project consists of building electromagnets. However, the audio and visual learners also benefit from the presentation. The Great Electromagnet race is easy to duplicate, because the materials are easy to find, and the materials aren’t expensive.

The contest would have to be changed and edited for middle school students because explained in the instruction manual the competition would be quite elementary.

When taught to high school students this project would be quite elementary for them, therefore, discussing physics and chemical forces regarding magnets and batteries would better interest the

While watching the students answer the questions, I noticed that several of them never lined up the paper slip with the bat or any of the other objects they were measuring. Their endpoints never lined up, causing them to incorrectly answer the first six questions. This lack of knowledge went to further diminish their conceptual understanding of how to take the third object and measure the first two objects to compare them. This lack understanding also affected their ability to correctly order three objects from shortest to longest. The mathematical reasoning was either a hit or miss with the students.…

For example, we taught 14 Energy Workshops at the Columbus Metropolitan Libraries, teaching financially disadvantaged students about environmental science and physics. Our team also developed and maintained a nine-week engineering summer camp for underprivileged students at Millennium Community School. During the summer of 2016, we helped host a week-long summer program at Healthy Asian Youth to provide inner-city kids with STEM opportunities. Approximately 200 students attended the camp everyday where our team members taught them various STEM concepts ranging from sound and light waves and electrical circuits to simple kinematics by creating mini-catapults. We plan to continue spreading STEM to as many communities as we can reach; currently, we have planned FRC, FTC, FLL, and underwater robotics camps that will be run by Metrobots team members in conjunction with The PAST…
