Upon progressing into the collegiate athletic world, Zachek continued to make significant strides as a member of the Lobo Women's Golf team. Last year, she led her team in the home tournament to a respectable 8th place team finish and played in the Mountain West Conference Championships. She has also made an impressive improvement since Freshman year by lowering her stroke average from a 78 to a 72. Although she has her suspicions about the flavor of gum she is chewing or the location of her ball mark, those cannot take credit for the achievements that she has continued to make; at least not all of the credit. Golf has been more than a game to Zachek; it has been something that has taught her many great life qualities and has given her a special bond with her parents and the family that she has built from her teammates.…

With my high school requiring a year of physical education, I opted to take the lifetime sport for I was nervous to compete for a spot on the highly competitive teams my school was known for. I was met at the court by 30 other freshmen with a mixed variety of expertise spanning from the first time to ever hold a racquet to a district ranked player. The district ranked player’s father, Mr. Weaver, was a sophomore chemistry teacher who happened to play tennis professionally in his heyday. Mr. Weaver volunteered to teach the freshman tennis team and to train them the basics before they were transferred to “the real…

At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…

Gordon B. Hinckley had once said something along the lines of hard work paying off, if effort is enforced into the work.
