Though gambling is commonly known to be a fun activity, this is not always the case for everyone. Van Hoof et al. (2007) have categorised five motives why individuals gamble. The first four can be considered to have a fun-related purpose. These reason being; for entertainment, social activity, exhilaration and the hope of winning. The motive that can be regarded as not being for enjoyment and can lead to becoming a hazard to a person's health is a behavioural disorder.
