Summary: The Essential Role Of Physicians

In the article entitled: “The Essential Role of Physicians”, a team of doctors have come together to discuss both the benefits and paramount importance of a physician’s involvement within creating and implementing teamwork strategies for the medical field. The article begins with a comparison between two different teams from two separate hospital conference rooms creating strategies for reducing infections within central line ports. One hospital involves physicians in the decision-making process while the other goes without a physician’s overlook. This comparison is to demonstrate that the group which involved a physician had a far more beneficial and successful outcome to improving the hospital’s rate of infection opposed to the other hospital which did not involve physicians.
This team of physicians argued that a doctor’s involvement in the decision-making process for teamwork-based policies is vital due to the physicians’ direct involvement in the implementation of the various hospital policies and procedures in relationship to strategic teamwork.
