The effects of bullying on teen students can be responsible for mental, physical, and social issues. Bullies usually want to feel a sense of power, and believe the victim won't stand up for him or herself. Most incidents usually go unreported, the victim usually does not want to worry the parents and be labeled a snitch. Victims tend to be socially isolated, and may lack social skills and friends. Bullying not only starts in the school yard, but is a lifestyle and a lifelong process in a variation of occupations and lifestyles. Cyberbullying is the willful and repeated harm inflicted through electronic media such as email, instant messaging, text messages, mobile phones, pagers and defamatory web sites. It's like old-fashioned bullying only even more cowardly, because the bully never has to show himself. Because it's a relatively new crime, the laws are still catching up and can be sketchy at times. Well over half of young people do not tell their parents when cyber bullying occurs, “Over 25 percent of adolescents and teens have been bullied repeatedly through their cell phones or the Internet” (i-SAFE foundation). Now there is cyber bullying, and although it is less physical than traditional forms of bullying, it can have more devastating and longer-lasting effects. Through cyber bullying a small physically weak child can be as much of a bully as the big brute but with more impact. A major difference between cyber bullying and traditional bullying is the ability to bully without a face to face confrontation. Kids become emboldened by the false feeling of being anonymous and they say things they might not have said in person. identifying a cyber bully isn't as easy as identifying the traditional big bad bully, authorities have greater difficulty in tracking down the bully because of problems in identification. Bullying can affect people in many ways. It has been a growing problem not only in United States but also everywhere else in the world and has become more of an issue. Bullying can be responsible for mental, physical, and social issues in teens. The victim being bullied can lose interest in school. They may suffer physical injuries and mental health issues. They may suffer depression and anxiety. They look sad and lonely. They suffer eating and sleep disorders and lose interest in activities they used to enjoy. There has been media reports on extreme cases where victims end up committing suicide or shooting in retaliation. Some people call this tragedy bullicide. In the 1990’s about 70% of school shooting were bully retaliation related. People who bully tend to have violent behavior. If they are allowed to continue bullying, they may engage more violent behavior. When kids see bullying, they may not know what to do, you should stop and think before you say or do something that could hurt someone. Talk to a parent, teacher, or another adult you trust. Adults need to know when bad things happen so they can help. Be kind to someone being bullied. Show them that you care by trying to include them. Sit with them at lunch or on the bus, talk to them at school, or invite them to do something. Just hanging out with them will help them know they aren’t
