She began to think about what an x-ray and a light bulb had in common. She jerked up and grabbed her chemistry book and flipped to the index, searching for x-ray machines. The page had a diagram showed an “electron emitter” and a “tungsten target”. In excitement and fear, she quickly turned back to the section on “Terms of Light and the Elements”. Light bulbs. Tungsten was a periodic –A supernatural equine representative of the element tungsten who had been rebuilding when she had previously been to the land of mathematics. His servants, the wolframs, had attacked her and her companions. Now the items in her world that used tungsten were not working which could not be good because only tungsten could do such a thing or so that is what Julie …show more content…
After a while Julie got back on Al but the chill wind still took its still. She found herself beginning to get cold as they were following up a path. Soon she lost interest in her surroundings; however, a signpost finally caught her eye. It was made of bronze or some other yellow metal that had a great downward- pointing triangle symbol. Stretching horizontally across the triangles middle was what looked like a capital “I”. they soon figured out that the”I” stood for Earth. The path suddenly twisted and began developing between two high cliffs. They proceeded before but halfway through this canyon, a rockslide blocked their progress. The roadblock brought a complete end to the path comprised of broken rocks and gravel which stretched half way up the ravine from wall to wall. They began to backtrack out of the canyon and to Julies surprise, Aurum and Chromium took off across the landscape to the right side of the path. The chemy led her and Al down the gravel bed and to the left.

Conclusion The Chemy Called Al was not one of the best books I have read, I just did not find a connection. It related to school when it started talking about all the things on the periodic table and how it matched each horses name to something on the periodic table. I have learned a lot this year about science and chemistry and how

This month I read the book The Compound by S.A Bodeen. This book was well written and fast paced, I like the suspense and the voice. I, however, thought that some of the plot points were a little predictable and at some points even drawn out. Overall I would rate this book an 8/10. In this book Eli and his family are forced into an underground bunker after a nuclear bomb leaves them shell-shocked and heartbroken.…

In the short story, Aylmer tells Georgina about alchemy. Alchemy is taking something that is plain and ordinary and making it more than it really is. Today, if you are traveling in Mexico, between the city of Toluca and the town of Ixtapan de la Sal, there is a lovely highway that makes the journey quick and easy. However, years ago, anyone making that journey was forced to travel along a dangerous and winding mountain road. On one side of the narrow road there was steep vertical rock and on the other side there was a sheer drop. One evening, many years ago, a bus departed from Ixtapan de la Sal as usual, making the familiar journey to Toluca.…

In life, any great story always has a background story - one that describes past hardships, demotivation or thoughts of complete failure. Somewhere amidst the negative, however, comes a positive stimulus, known as an awakening. Typically, at the time of an awakening, the change or realization being proposed is hard to accept, but somewhere deep down, one can feel that despite all the hard times they have gone through, something wonderful is yet to come. Kevin Wilson, the author of Tunneling to the Center of the Earth, does a fantastic job illustrating several awakenings that happen in the short stories in his collection. Wilson defines an awakening moment in the short stories “Birds in the House,” “Tunneling to the Center of the Earth,” and…

During class, we discussed the Alchemist in various ways, such as in English, Spanish, a graphic novel as well as an audio recording. Usually I would read the book in English, but doing this allowed me to expand on my preferences and discover different methods or reading a novel and how it changes or doesn’t change the way I perceive the book. When I attempted to read the book along with hearing the audio version, I found myself reading faster than it and wanted to mute it out. Although the speed of the audio was slow, the different voices used for the Alchemist and the Old King were interesting and effective. If I were to ever hear the audio version, I would put my full focus on the reader’s voice and not read the book simultaneously.…
