These internships will, hopefully, at least in part, prepare me for what I might have to face with my job. I also hope to gain experience by volunteering at centers for violent crime victims such as the Center for the Study of Family Violence and Sexual Assault at Northern Illinois University, where I will be able to help those in need and gain experience in the…
2. C. What coursework or experiences best prepared you to perform during internship? I think the course that I utilized the most in my internship was Program Design and Administration (456).…
When volunteering at West Minnehaha it made me realize things that I didn’t pay attention to before going in. The point was to build relationships, problem solve, what to do in a conflict situation, and step outside of my comfort zone. I learned how to do every single one of those things. I realized that the kids are in need of someone who they can look up to and a dependable person who they can count on. For example, I was looking after a few kids that were doing homework and when walking around I hear a conversation of two kids.…
I’ve been shown with this experience how important it is for me to keep working at my people skill, that my ability to efficiently communicate is the bases for success with a sales job like selling flooring or lighting fixtures. This internship has helped me grow as a person and gain confidence. My favorite part of my internship was when Cozette and I were working with a client on a new construction job. The client brought in a completed floor plan, and came to select finishes and cabinetry. As we were walking through the floor plan we discussed the layouts of the bathrooms and kitchen.…
At the beginning of the semester while at my field placement, I noticed several staff members who appeared burnt out. Since that time, I set a personal goal to aim to lift the spirits of the staff members within the agency. I decorated the bulletin boards around the office giving the staff positive messages to view throughout their day. I also secretly left positive quote cards on their desks in efforts to further build morale around the office. While visiting the offices of the staff members, I have noticed the cards displayed on filing cabinets and taped to desk.…

I got the opportunity to do my internship at Houston Methodist West Hospital. I have been working for Methodist for the past 4 years in our registration department and out of those four years, I have had the opportunity to work with 3 different management teams. Although, each of my management teams delivered different methods on how to properly register a patient under 7 min or less, our goal we have always strived for was keeping our patient satisfaction scores at a high. Our organization implemented a strategy called AIDET, (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explain, and Thank you) to make this process work effectively. As our patient were very impressed with our ICARE values, (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence)…
As I walked into the small building, that in fact looked very enormous at the time, I began to anticipate every answer I would give to the person who interviewed me, so that to them, I would at least seem prepared. Although I had practiced my interviewing skills that very morning, I felt anxious and worried. Not knowing what to expect, many different scenarios ran through my mind, all of which weren't making my situation any better. Questions after questions were asked, all which seemed impossible for me to answer, and I felt as though I blew the whole thing. After the interview, many days passed by, and I had convinced myself that I did not get job.…
Arriving to Hillcrest on the first day of my internship, I had numerous goals set for the semester. I spent my first few weeks putting together objectives on how I was going to attain those goals. My first goal was to successfully complete a major project. Once I was given the TWC Grant as my major assignment, I determined how I was going to successfully carry this project out. As time progressed and I learned more about the different processes of the TWC Grant, many existing objectives changed and new ones were developed.…
The professional book that I chose to read was “The American Health Care Paradox: why spending more is getting us less” wrote by Elizabeth H. Bradley and Lauren A. Taylor. In this book the authors demonstrate how American is spending more in health care but have poorer health outcome compare to other industrialized countries especially the Scandinavian countries (Sweden, Denmark and Norway). After interviewing different people in the medical field, the authors believe firmly that America will have better health outcomes if the government invest more in social services such as education, employment, training, housing, etc.… This does not imply that spending in health care is a wrong doing, it just means that social services and the health care…
I think in terms of preferences even in the small amount of time I figured out of the variety of roles and projects you can jump into in this internship what I prefer to do and what in the future I definitely won’t be looking into for a career. In this short experience so far I know that I’m not going to be in the sports media since I’m not the greatest writer and I don’t want to sports commentary. I know I will be effective in my internship experience.…
I yearned to view the world in a different perspective. I aim far beyond just experiencing the world first hand, seeing it through multiple lenses, and watching how it runs in the background. In fact, what I desire is to see where I must stand to give my maximum contribution to the global industry and multicultural understanding--a purpose I know I must serve. And this was what drove me to fly 8,500 miles from the Pearl of the Orient to the Land of the Free.…
In addition, it will increase my confidence and leadership skills, which will serve as valuable tools for future employment and beyond. My ideal internship experience would involve working in a role where I am surrounded by people who encourage each other in a supportive environment where everyone has a unique contribution to the team. I would love to work in an environmental health field or in epidemiology where I can work behind the scenes to improve public health, as well as working directly with the public. It would be ideal to be able to constantly challenge myself, and be involved in multiple roles. It would also include having the freedom to work independently, as well as collaborating with…
In exactly 23 days I will be graduating from Salisbury University. It feels surreal to make such a statement and the fact that it is true excites me. I have seen myself grow as a leader, as a teacher and as person. Both of my internship experiences, as different as they were, each prepared me to take on a classroom of my own.…
