Domestic violence is a serious problem that can occur in any community. It can occur between two people who are in a close relationship, it can happen to the elderly, the children, and even animals or pets. Domestic violence can happen in the form of spousal abuse, stalking, child abuse, or elderly abuse (Miller, Hess, Orthmann, 2014). This form of violence can even go beyond the person being victimized and affect those who are close to the victim. For instance, a victim’s child, even if they have not been physically harmed, can suffer from the negative effects of domestic violence just by witnessing this form of violence (Miller, Hess, Orthmann, 2014). Therefore, no one is truly safe from domestic violence and the negative effects that may follow. For these reasons, among many others, is why it is important for communities, law enforcement, and other government agencies to work together to help prevent future victims from domestic violence and to help those who have already been impacted by this public health issue. …show more content…
