To fight the battle against this epidemic, governmental action is imperative in collaboration with the participation of community, educational institutions and health care providers. Local government has published a report in September, 2009 under the Institute of Medicine (IOM), Committee on Childhood Obesity Prevention Actions for Local Governments. In that report, the governmental action plans with strategies and goals to prevent childhood obesity has been included. Since government has made some action plan, with the help of other non-governmental organization, there is a hope of preventing childhood obesity. The goal of Healthy People 2010, a national health organization is to reduce the rate of obesity of the children between the age of 6 to 11 years old from the current rate of 22 percent to 16 percent, and the children between the age of 12 to 19 years old from current the rate of 23 percent to 16 percent by 2020. First Lady Michelle Obama is dedicatedly working on the movement to reduce obesity of the children in the United States of America. She stated that, this is not just a policy issue for her. This is her passion, as well as her mission. She also stated that, she is determined to work with people across this country to change the way a generation of kids thinks about food and nutrition.
