This week we were asked to pick a disorder of the male or female reproductive system and write about it. I chose to write about premature ovarian failure. This is also sometimes called primary ovarian insufficiency. Premature ovarian failure is when a women losses normal functions of her ovaries before she is 40. This is sometimes mistaken as early menopause. Women experiencing premature ovarian failure can still have regular or irregular periods and may still become pregnant. When you lose normal function of your ovaries they don’t produce the right amount of estrogen or eggs a women’s body needs. Often this results in infertility.
