On September 25, 2013, two-year old Colton Zamudio was brutally murdered by his grandmother’s two pit bulls in their backyard (Hall). Colton will never have the opportunities to go to school, make friends, or enjoy any other life experiences because these vicious animals cut his life short. Pit bulls should be banned as pets because they are dangerous around children, they are accountable for numerous deaths and injuries resulting in costly medical care and have tendencies to attack. Two years ago, my friend and I were playing with her new dog in her driveway, when suddenly a large black pit bull began sprinting at us. Then the malicious dog started attacking my friend, myself and her puppy. We tried separating the pit bull off of us and her dog, but the pit bull continued to bite us and the dog. My friend’s father raced out of their house and started forcefully kicking the violent pit bull but it wouldn’t move, it took a neighbor hitting the pit bull with a metal shovel eight times to get the pit bull to release its teeth from our …show more content…
If the attack is major, the victim might have to stay in the Intensive Care Unit. Most major dog attack victims stay for an average of three days, and the average cost is $3,209 per day, not including any additional surgeries and care services from other departments (Williamson). But who pays the medical bills when an innocent 7 year old, like Maddison Kinsley gets heartlessly murdered by a pit bull? Her mother stated in a local interview, that the owner of the eight-year old pit bull paid only a small amount of their daughter medical costs (Kinsley). Not only do victims have to suffer through these intense injuries and emotional scars, but they have to manage paying massive medical costs all due to a murderous dog

Thirty-four deaths have occurred because of dog bites. Eighty-two percent of those deaths are caused by pit bulls. That does not convince one that pit bulls are not aggressive. Pit bulls, just like any other dog, want a caring family and a joyous home. Some individuals may argue that pit bulls should not be allowed to be kept as pets due to a few of the vicious crimes they have committed in the past, however, the entire pit bull breed should not be punished for the act of a few of their counterparts. Pit bulls, as long as they have a positive home environment, the proper social interaction, and get plenty of exercise are no more dangerous than any other dog and should be allowed to be kept as pets. Pit bulls, in order for them to behave well, need an owner that will work with them and give them a proper environment. Before taking on the challenge of raising a pit bull, one must know that it does require a certain…

The answer leads to media. The media is the cause of the fear about Pit Bulls. They created the impression that these dogs are harmful and makes the public believe that they’re the only dogs that attack. It states in Source #4, “Despite the fact that other breeds of dogs can and do attack people, these incidents go unmentioned, even at the local level. The media intentionally over-reports incidents involving Pit Bulls, while keeping silent on attacks committed by dogs with better reputation, such as labradors.”…

While recently looking up Canadian laws, Animal Rights popped up and seemed very intriguing. From thereon, the Dog Owners Liability Act surfaced and it states “The owner of a dog is liable for damages resulting from a bite or attack by the dog on another person or domestic animal.” This law does make sense that the owner should take the responsibility of their dog because they were the ones who raised the dog to be the way it is but the one sub issue found with this law is the Pit Bull Ban. The total ban on the Pit Bull breed in Ontario is unacceptable because the government shouldn’t be targeting just the one breed because of the actions of several individual dogs, Pit Bulls shouldn’t be treated differently from other breeds, and if the government is already banning a whole breed, what is going to stop them from banning a bunch of other breeds that have the same attack numbers. Throughout this essay, it will be proven that the total ban of Pit Bulls is ridiculous and the law should be revoked.…

The determining factor of whether they grow up with the correct behavior is heavily influenced by how the owners are raising and breeding them. There are many people that support the banning of pit bulls. The problem is also local and immediate, as Denver, Colorado, has a city ordinance that bans the ownership of pit bulls, a ban that only has a basis in stereotypes and not in reality. As a breed, pit bulls should not be banned, as their stereotyped behavior is not directly related to their disposition as a breed, and measures can be taken by human owners to ensure that they are raised to be well behaved. CAUSES Pit bull behavior is, for the most part, dictated by factors outside of their genetics, and pit bulls begin their development at conception and…
