Summary: Personal Experience With Behavior Intervention Services

Decent Essays
I supported several clients with special needs during my time with Behavior Intervention Services, My most memorable client was a young boy who required assistance in communication. He could not communicate verbally, so the team found alternative methods to teach him functional communication. I assisted in teaching him sign language and how to use assistive communication applications on his iPad . I taught him these methods by using high fives as a reinforcer. For instance, when he appropriately asked for a glass of milk on his iPad, I would give him the glass of milk and a hive five. I also did the same if he appropriately signed the word for milk. In the beginning, it was difficult because he did not understand the purpose of sign language

In elementary school, I participated in my school's Best Buddies program, where students spent one day a week hanging out with students with special needs. My time at Best Buddies quickly became my favorite part of each week. Throughout middle school, I continued my involvement in special education by spending time at Ready, Set, Ride!, a horse ranch with adaptive equipment designed to enable children with special needs to mount and ride horses. This program inspired my desire to be involved in special education programs. For the past two years, I have continued to fulfill my passion for special education by planning and attending monthly socials for adults with special needs, hosted by the Western Dupage Special Recreational Association (WDSRA).…

You address a very important point, when determining which theory is going to be the most success many factors need to be considered. Culter (2004) indicated behavioral health interventions must be designed to affect the actions with regards to their health. Helping the roommates on earning something crucial in their life is always precious and fun. In the case of making a plan for my roommate to lose weight can be a tough work, but the positive reinforcement attached with the plan, which is getting chance on the football team is definitely worth it. Nevertheless, I will make one-month behavior modification program based on the principles of operant conditioning that will get my roommate started toward his goal, so that he can get chance on the football team by the end of the month. Before making a plan, I must keep some crucial factors in mind so that my roommate stays determined on his goal so that nothing can distract him to move away from his goal. With that said, I will use the positive and negative reinforcement along with positive and negative punishment if needed to make sure he doesn’t move away from his goal.…

Positive Behavior Support is a great behavior intervention model, I am very familiar with this particular model because I happened to be one of the leaders of the committee that is responsible for implementing it in my school. Positive Behavior Support or PBS is very effective because it is not about just expecting the students to know what to do, it’s about teaching them what is expected. We wouldn’t give a student a test without teaching or facilitating the learning of the material, the same is true for behavior. We can’t assume students know what we as teachers expect. Positive Behavior Support requires all teachers have the same overall expectations therefore these expectations can be taught school wide. .…

Usually at night, I will stay up until 4 in the morning because I am either doing homework or messing around with my friends. Since I have to wake up at 8 in the morning for my classes, I only receive about 4 hours of sleep a night. This causes me to take a lot of naps during the day to make up for the missed hours. My roommate always complains that I need to stop sleeping during the day because she feels that she always needs to be quiet when really she should not have to.…

There are many challenges that exist with providing effective prevention/intervention programs on a global scale. One of the many challenges is money. Poor countries don’t have the money or resources to educate or test citizens and supply them with protection such as condoms and antiviral treatment for pregnant women. Additionally, there may be a sense of shame in some of these populations. These countries may not want to admit that they have a problem with HIV and just ignore it, choosing not to educate their population on prevention.…
