Summary: Panerotic Sheep

Improved Essays
The image being discussed shows a boy standing upon a large cliff, which is also surrounded by a flock of chaotic sheep. The image is beautifully painted as a panoramic scene which illustrates many different parts of a village. It has a soft, contrast background throughout the top-third of the image which has darker lighting than the bright, illuminated bottom. The boy is standing with an indecisive posture while looking straight into the distance. There is a large body of water that reaches out to both sides of the image.

It was his intent to face forward, perhaps due to his knowledge of knowing where he is destined to go. The large body of water reflects all the other things out there such as new opportunities and new beginnings. The sheep

Popular media forms propagate the idea that ivy league schools are the ultimate destination place for those desiring power and influence. William Deresiewicz, author of Excellent Sheep: The Miseducation of the American Elite and the Way to a Meaningful Life, speaks to the contrary in a Fortune magazine interview, “Students who attend an elite school make the same amount of money as those who could have gone to an elite school but chose not to, because what matters is the kid, not the school.” The promise of an elite education is the perceived path to “success” and wealth, and elite schools often receive praise for their superior graduates and exceptional professors. However, if Deresiewicz is correct and what matters is the individual, what are the elite universities doing for a student who is likely going thousands of dollars into debt to attend? Ivy league universities and other top tier schools are not, in fact, providing the highest quality education possible or promoting genuine…

In this exceedingly powerful painting, “Figures in a Landscape” painted in 1972 by Sidney Goodman, a child, woman, and man are in what looks to be a park because of the sandbox and blue and red swing set. In the background the mountains are bright and happy with houses surrounded by many tall green trees. On the right side of the painting is a huge dark gloomy cloud like when a murder is about to occur in a horror movie. The figures look like something is going on in their mind, maybe they are unhappy with each other or something is really upsetting them. When I see this painting I feel as if the figures are in there own world not aware of their surroundings.…

The artwork I chose to imagine is Van Gogh’s famous oil painting called Starry Night. It was painted in June of 1889 and has grown to be known as one of his most famous paintings. Van Gogh was a post-impressionist and painted Starry Night from memory in his apartment. The view is of a village from a window in an asylum. I chose this painting because it has always been hanging in my Aunt’s living room.…

Through black independent film, Burnett uses the mise-en-scène of Killer of Sheep to depict black female identity in these particular scenes. Burnett successfully transcends and reflects the character’s image in society through the use of everyday matter. The physical lid of the pot is a reflective item, depicting to Stan’s wife a literal image of herself in it. The doll that Stan’s daughter sings to is not only a reflection of her identity and self esteem, but of blackness in a white world. In contrast, Burnett also uses the mise-en-scène to depict black male identity.…

With outstanding contrast and color usage mixed with an amazing skill in creating accurate and realistic figures, he was a very successful painter of his time. His skill is shown especially in his later work, The Last Supper, and in the massive Paradise. Tintoretto’s use of steep perspective and dramatic lighting highlight the realism and anatomy in his…
