Text-to-Text relation:
I don’t acquire a very solid text- to- text connection to “On the Sidewalk Bleeding”. My reasoning as to why I don’t acquire a solid connection is because the genre of books I regularly read is relatable as not very many of the books I read are from the tragedy category. The text-to-text connection that I did make was when Andy talked about marrying Laura one day, as it brought me back to the “Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins. In this novel, the foil of the “Hunger Games”, Peeta was brutally wounded by his allies, to after which he was found by Katniss, the protagonist. Katniss took Peeta into a cave and aided him as best as she could, to which Peeta confessed his love for Katniss and wished he helped Katniss earlier in their village (district). In addition, Peeta also kept thinking about how he one day wanted to tie the knot with Katniss and start a

It was fall of 2012 and my brother Siraj had newly learned how to drive; as he was on his way to work, he got into an accident. Siraj had called our parents and we hurried over. Around the time of this accident which I would say was nine a.m., folks on our street would be doing their yoga. Therefore, when my parents and I arrived to the scene of the accident all the people doing their yoga, stopped doing their yoga were adjoining Siraj, but not helping him or calling 911. My brother Saif, who had later come to support, had heard some folks saying that they desired to help but were fearful of potential trouble or involvement of the police. The reason I related this event in my life to “On the Sidewalk Bleeding” was because Freddie left Andy alone due to the fear of potential trouble for himself. The folks in my neighborhood didn’t want to help Siraj because they were again, fearful of potential trouble and having to be involved with the police

Despite the differences in setting, the authors in both stories have a character who breaks free from restrictions to figure out and embrace their identity. This character is murdered due to their identity. “On the Sidewalk, Bleeding” and “Harrison Bergeron” differ greatly in setting, one being set on a city sidewalk in the past, and the other in a house in 2081. Both the stories show two different stages of equality in time, in the past where there were many inequalities in daily life, and in the future where everything and everyone is equal. In “OTSB”, Andy the main character wears a jacket whose “lettering across the back of the jacket read THE ROYALS,” a gang.…

“Every two years more Americans are killed by guns than during the entire fourteen years of the Vietnam War” according to Gregory Orfalea in “Self-Inflicted Carnage” (1). Gregory Orfalea, a credible American author, argues in his article “Self-Inflicted Carnage” that there is a desperate need for modern gun control measures in the United States due to the recent increase of gun violence. Robert A. Levy, chairman of the Cato Institute and co-counsel in District of Columbia v. Heller, on the other hand, states in “Our Core Second Amendment Rights” that gun control measures not only violate the rights protected by the Second Amendment, but would also be ineffective because the government cannot control people nor the firearms that have already been legally distributed to rightful owning citizens. In their articles, both Orfalea and Levy argue their drastically opposing positions on modern-day gun reform because where Orfalea demands immediate control based on recent tragedy, Levy argues that gun regulations will not solve anything because they do not fight the source of the problem--the people. These authors both represent their stances through their opinions on topics such as…

“Someone call 911”, I said, when I saw a girl fall down the stairs lying unconscious. The nurse at Rockdale County High School assisted with the situation. My friend Fred and I held her so she wouldn’t hurt herself any more than had already been done. The nurse notified us that this girl has epilepsy (meaning that a person has had two or more seizures, but it’s not contagious & is not caused by mental illness or mental retardation). I didn’t pay too much attention to what the nurse was saying because I was focused on the girl's breathing and her ability regain consciousness.…

In the Hunger Games, the most important similarities the movie shared with the book was making Peeta initiate the idea of him and Katniss being lovers. This is so significant because, without this, most of the main events in the book and movie would never have taken place. For one, this angle would have left Katniss to be just another face in the crowd, not making her stand out, which also meant fewer sponsors, decreasing her chances of survival. However, the most important reason for this is because Katniss would have left Peeta to die when he needed her the most and she would not have been able to plant the small seeds of defiance against the capital. In the movie and novel, the games take a surprising turn when an announcement goes out that…

Katniss’ ally in the Hunger Games is Peeta Mellark, a 16 year old boy that was the male tribute reaped for the 74th Hunger Games. Whilst Katniss and Peeta have contrasting opinions and personality traits, they share the same quality that lots of other characters have in this franchise, the need to protect others and survive. Of course, Peeta hasn’t had as much practice at survival as Katniss has due to his ever-so-slightly kinder upbringing. Peeta’s character…
