Robert Mcchesney's The Real Digital Revolution

In “The Real Digital Revolution”, Robert McChesney reveals how technology in the form of robots, computers, and the internet are changing the workforce as we know it. Not only is this going to affect our economy, but also politics and the culture of our world. McChesney discusses a speech given by the Chief Executive Officer of one of the largest industrial corporations in the world. One of the audience members questioned the CEO about the prospect of using robots in manufacturing in the future. The CEO informed them that his company already had one fully automated factory in Germany and had the technology to immediately invert all the factories in his company worldwide to being fully automatic. If everything becomes automated, teaching, banking, manufacturing, et cetera, how will people earn a living? This will cause a ripple effect because if people are not earning money, then they cannot spend money. This would then effect grocery stores, restaurants, movie theaters, and various other forms of entertainment. Another effect it would have would be on travel like airplanes, gas, and hotels. These industries would feel the effects of these “technological advances”. I know that this seems positive for some; however, I feel like the negative impacts outweigh the advancements. In conclusion, I realize that our world is ever-changing and that technology is a part of everyday life. In fact, without technology I would not have been able to write this essay. Therefore, my feelings are very mixed on technology and the changes it has brought. I am guilty of searching the web, looking at Facebook and Instagram, and Snapchatting.
