Summary Of Will Hurricanes Change

Scott states in “Will Hurricanes Change as the World Warms?” (2010), that recent studies have shown that global warming could be the cause of more active hurricane seasons. This article states that we go through a period of a couple years that temperatures are cooler than normal then a couple years after that are significantly warmer than normal. In the duration of our cool periods, hurricane activity is very low. Thus in the periods of warmer temperatures brings a very active hurricane season and a higher risk of severity. There is one year that has gone against this research, 2005 is considered to be a “very rare” hurricane season due to the fact that is was during a cool period and we experienced three category five hurricanes. In the video, “Super Hurricanes and Typhoons”, the main idea was to inform about hurricanes/typhoons by telling what they are, and how they could get stronger. The video supports the main idea by giving examples of hurricanes that have landed in the U.S. and saying what year they struck, the wind speeds, the storm surge, and how many people died from the said hurricane. While informing about past hurricanes, they also tell you what a hurricane is and how they form. For example, in the video “Super Hurricanes and Typhoons”, it states that, “… hurricanes are giant rotating storms that feed on heat captured by tropical oceans”. This video also says how hurricanes form.…

A hurricane is defined as being a, “rotating, organized system of clouds and thunderstorms that originates over tropical or subtropical waters and has a closed low-level circulation” (“Tropical”). Hurricanes need many factors to help develop from a simple storm to a tropical storm and from a tropical storm to a hurricane. They need warm sea surface temperatures, low atmospheric winds, and a rotating area of air to form these storms (Gray, 1994). Hurricanes start when the atmospheric pressure is lower than the pressure around it. This change in pressure evaporates water from the ocean and creates the clouds and storms that we know as hurricanes (Gray, 1994).…

The wildfires in house F begin unnoticed, are caused by by high heat of high winds, the fires happen on the surface of the Earth, the fires can’t be predicted, there are about 5 fires a month, and wildfires destroy homes and can cause health problems. Volcanoes that also happen in house F, there are 1,500 active volcanoes and 50 erupt in 1 year, volcanoes are caused by pressure and magma overflow, volcanoes happen under the surface and are not…

This article is about how people could have caused hurricane Harvey to be much worse than what it could have been. Climate scientists suggest that global warming made a bad situation worse. When global warming occurs it realesed greenhouse gasses into the earth which makes more heat be trapped in our atmosphere which led to faster evaporation. Harvey was thriving on unusually warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico. As the storm came toward Houston waters near Texas rose to between 2.7 and 7.2 degrees Fahrenheit above average.…

This is however a little above normal water temperatures for the time of the year. When combined with cool air temperatures due to an upper atmosphere low pressure trough, the contrast may have produced the convectional instability allowing the storm to transition to a hurricane. What makes the anomalous hurricane even more remarkable is that just a few days earlier, a similar phenomenon took place in the North Pacific Ocean, with Hurricane Pali being considered an extremely late season hurricane. Meteorologist Jeff Masters of Weather Underground believes that warmer water temperatures helped in the development of Hurricane Alex: "The unusually warm waters for Alex were due, in part, to the high levels of global warming that brought Earth its warmest year on record in 2015. Global warming made Alex's formation much more likely to…

A hurricane, by definition, is a tropical cyclone with strong winds spiraling inward and upward and speeds ranging from 75 mph to 200 mph. Hurricanes emerge from the Atlantic basin, which consists of the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, the northeastern Pacific Ocean, and, less often, the central north Pacific Ocean. Most hurricanes follow a similar cycle of development. Some may run their course in as little as a day or as long as a month. They weaken and are transformed into extratropical cyclones after prolonged contact with the colder ocean waters of the middle latitudes, and they rapidly decay after moving over land areas.…

Hurricanes are reputable threats because sea levels have been continuing to rise, “Global sea level rose about 17 centimeters (6.7 inches) in the last century” (Jenkins, “Global Climate Change”). Hurricanes would overflow waterfront properties and cities faster, with warming sea temperatures and rising sea levels; it is only a matter of time before famous big-name cities such as New York City and Miami become the next underwater cities of Atlantis. Not to mention, the other massive destruction the storms would leave behind in their merciless wake. Though these studies have been made to prove the ice was continuing…
