Many people presume that only guys play video games. When a guy finds out that a girl likes to play video games, they are generally shocked. They believe that even if the girl plays video games, she cannot be good at it and if the girl does beat them they become embarrassed and wonder how they lost to a girl. Carmen Tieu, illustrates in, "Why Violent Video Games Are Good for Girls" that it is okay to be a girl and be good at playing first person shooter games. She explains that playing first person shooter games "allows girls to be freed from feminine stereotypes and increases their confidence," (83).
