I feel angry that I can understand what today’s children have to face because it started back when I was a child, but now it has blown up. I held my breath watching that little girl cut the fish for the sushi, but that exactly what we need. We need parents to start believing in the capability of their children. We need parents to understand that children are their own conductors. We need parents to give their children more open play. However, that is not enough. Children spend most of their day not with parents, but with teachers. We as teachers need to fight for more open play time not only for the sake of the children but for the sake of the future of the world. How are we ever going to find a cure all the disease when the one person that might have that capability does not have to social skills needed to talk to big company directors to get money to fund the research. Who is going to solve global warming when that person wasn 't given enough open play to build the confidence in their ability to know that they can do it. The world needs capable people not only in the scholarly meaning, but also in the human meaning. The world needs people that can communicate effectively, that are confident in themselves and abilities and all this can be achieved through open play.
After reading the Article “ No More Perfect 10”, I feel like that was a big step forward for gymnastics. I like the new system of scoring that they are using because it counts the positives of a routine instead of subtracting the negatives. I feel like this is healthier to the children and adults striving to compete in this sport, because it gives you a sense of accomplishment. I can relate to even being in school.
