Does Walter White’s Virtù begin to diminish as the show “Breaking Bad” continues and what is it that Walter wants as his glory? These are the questions I have been asking myself as I have attempted to write this essay. The television show I selected for this essay was “Breaking Bad” by Vince Gilligan. The show follows the life of a chemistry teacher named Walter White, who has discovered that he has stage 3 lung cancer. Upon the discovery that he has a death sentence, Walter embarks on a journey into a life of crime with his former student Jesse Pinkman; they disburse crystal meth on the streets to make sure Walter’s family would well off after his death. Walter White exhibits these characteristics in trying to accomplish his glory. Virtù manifests itself in season 1 episode 1 as Walt discovers that he has Lung Cancer. The discovery that he has lung cancer despite not ever smoking in his entire life and that his family would not be able to survive financially became a worry for him so making sure that his family was secure was his ambition. Walter’s virtù begins to vanish as the show continues and the reason for this is every one that means something to him leaves. Walter becomes consumed with his life as a drug dealer and as his alter ego as “Heisenberg” as a result he spends less time with his family and eventually his wife finds out. Walter continues down this path despite making more than enough money for his family to survive with and the reason for this is that drug dealing made him feel alive
