Developing the practical skills of observing a child in detail and successfully interpreting your observation results is critical to the Occupational Therapy practice. The aim of the video observation assignment is to identify a child’s gross and fine motor abilities, visual perception, social skills, language, and play habits to determine the child’s strength and weaknesses through effective interpreted perceptions. To provide some background information to illustrate the context of the video, the setting took place in a home environment, mostly in the living room, with a 13-month-old male named Noah, and included the participant examiner named Jacqui. Along with the main subjects, Noah’s siblings were seen throughout the video.

I think that this video relates to the class because it relates a lot to chapter 14 and consumers values. Joseph Pine talks all about how consumers want and value “authentic” experiences but how authenticity is mostly just the way that the customer perceives that experience. It is important to understand how a consumer may see your company so that you are able to position yourself as a “real experience” for consumers to trust and to choose over others. From this speech, it seems like authenticity seems to be a global value and all organizations can benefit from understanding what it means to be authentic in the consumers’ eyes. Joseph Pine begins his speech by talking about the progression of economic value, or the change from commodities to goods to services.…

MY STORY I work in Equine Therapy, which means that I work with special needs kids and the kind, loving creatures known as horses. Many of the kids I work with are 6-14, often meaning that they are harder to work with because either the saddle doesn’t fit them, or they are easily distracted. The equine therapy industry is filled with marvelous people that care for other people’s needs and make sure to accommodate for any inconvenience as soon as it is mentioned. Since I work in equine therapy, I know that it isn’t the easiest job, especially around a strong, 1200 lb animal that has a mind of its own and can take off in a flash (since they are fight or flight animals that is). Though the job isn’t for everybody, it is an amazing…

    1. After watching the “Eye of the Beholder” video, I thought about the social institution in our culture. According to the Human Education in Diversity textbook, social institution is defined as “a set of rules, or norms, that enable us to get through the day without having to figure out how to behave toward others” (Cushner, 2015, p. 6). In the video, what I perceive as ugly is beauty to the normal people in the video. To me, the patient 307 looks very normal, and the doctor and nurses look ugly.…

This means the way at which infants receive, process, and organize information gathered from their senses (“Infant Toddler,” 2012). Throughout the observation, the infant often imitated the teacher roaring, playing peek-a-boo, and bye-bye. The infant was also capable of distinguishing between whether or not an object was still present when hidden behind the teacher. The infant would move the teacher’s body part out of the way to see the object, which demonstrates an understanding of object permanence (“Infant Toddler,” 2012). The infant was also able to perceive the teacher’s intentions with different toys.…
