Summary Of Understanding The Fact Of Men's Greater Power

This chapter is about the story of Margaret Parker who is a superintendent and tells the story of how she came to have that position because this position is controlled by white men. This lady is African American and comes from a poor family. The lady says that she had the support of important men and that is why she got to be where she is. According to the author Margaret claims that "Understanding the fact of men's greater power and accepting men's support are crucial to women's success in the field". I do not agree that we should understand that men have control in some professions because that would be accepting that they are better and that they are privileged because they are men and it is not true because we are all equal and we must have the same opportunities since woman are also capable of doing the same work as man. On the contrary, we should fight for these rights and not accept that they have control because, although it is true, women have not only advanced in the recognition of their labor and social rights, but several have been able to reach positions or work in areas previously controlled by men. I think we should all support each other to end once and for all with so much inequality in the workplace. But I also think that the support of the family is also crucial in the success of a woman in the workplace because a woman supported by her family has the strength to be able to act with determination to eliminate the discrimination they find in multiple fronts.
