Summary Of Tthew's Short Story: Banana-Zilla

Matthew subtly rolled his eyes as his soccer coach yelled at him. He didn’t feel like he needed to be punished for being late for practice. He understood that their most important game was the next day, but he was tired. He had gotten home at 4 A.M. the previous night because of the Pulitzer Prize ceremony. It was a hectic night and he crashed as soon as he reached his bed. As a result, he had forgotten to set his alarm for the next morning and woke up two hours later than he was supposed to. The day before the incident of being two hours late to practice, Matthew was in Upper Manhattan in New York City. He was receiving his Pulitzer Prize at the ceremony being held at Columbia University. It was his first Pulitzer Prize, so he knew he had to attend the awarding in person. He had gotten the award for his most famous short story, “Banana-zilla”. His story fascinated people of all ages, which played a big role in helping him obtain the award. Everyone was especially impressed with the fact that Matthew had written “Banana-zilla” in his middle school years. After the ceremony, which ended at roughly 4 P.M. in New York time, he had to fly straight back to …show more content…
Before the game, people were given the chance to mess around on the field. A handful of kids took their chance, but there weren’t many teenagers who went out. Matthew was one of the few older kids that walked out in front of the whole crowd. He started out by doing simple soccer tricks. He didn’t care to show off because he was just enjoying the feeling of being on the field of Old Trafford. He got lost in what he was doing and didn’t realize that he was starting to use some of his better skills. When he stopped to rest, he noticed that everyone was watching him.
