“The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, follows the protagonist and main character’s growing mental depression, worsened by their authoritarian spouse. How one’s day might change living as a character in this story depends on who one changed places with or if they assumed a new role altogether. The protagonist lives in fear, has an uncertain future, and is restricted from mental stimulation let alone pursuing a professional career; their antagonistic spouse is a doctor, makes unilateral decisions for the family, and enjoys far more freedom inside and outside the home. The story does not end well for either spouse and would see this author running to get far away from this
