Personal Narrative: Taking Home Gus

Taking Home Gus Between my sister and me, I have always been considered the “wild child.” My sister, Becca, was the one who was well behaved and mature; she was the one who could be trusted. I on the other hand am a whole different story. With that being said, if I had asked my parents to have my own dog, their response would not be in my favor. Though we do own a dachshund, Rusty, I have always wanted a dog I could call my own. I have always wanted that “best friend” type of relationship with a dog. Waking up in the morning to walk my dog or to ride my skateboard around with sounded perfect to me, and boy was I right. I have asked my parents several, more than that, times to get a new dog. Their answer always involved me not being able …show more content…
So this time, instead of asking, I just brought him home. My friend Taylor’s Chihuahua had previously given birth to puppies multiple times, and every time I asked if I could take one I got the same answer, no. This time I decided to play my cards differently; instead I showed up to my house with the dog without permission. Knowing my parents would make my give the dog back to the rightful owner, my best friend, I had to make up a different story to tell. After walking in the door with this adorable puppy, my parents were shocked to hear he was mine. Their first question was where I got the dog from, which I did not tell them. I told my parents earlier in the day I was at Academy Sports when I saw a lady sitting by a box that says “free puppies.” Therefore, if they tried to tell me to bring him back, I could simply say that the lady had already left the store. It was hard to be mad at me being that my new dog Gus was so adorable. My mother was worried because by the looks of him, he looked like a German Sheppard and we definitely did not have space for that. He was so small at the time you could not tell he was actually a Chihuahua. He was all tan with a black snout and my mom swears he had huge paws. My father was just upset because I went behind their back. Eventually they got over it, after a week of them playing with Gus. All he wanted to do was sleep and eat all the time. That came to an end very

When I was little, I would always drag my mom into the pet store. I loved pressing my face up against the glass and watching the cute little golden retriever or the labrador puppies playing. If I was really lucky, my mom would let me go to the little rooms where you can play with them. I would pick my favorite one, the cutest one, and Jane, my mom and I would play with him or her. I always gave the puppy a name, and when it was time to go, I would beg her to let me keep it.…

When I was ten years of in the summer of 2008, my Mom, Dad, brother, and I all drove to a farm out in the middle of nowhere to check out some puppies we saw on craigslist. When we arrived, I saw a grassy field with 5 dogs on it, and trees covering the perimeter. The dad of all the puppies was watching over like an ancient guardian, he was pretty intense, he was a massive brown Labrador, that didn’t move around much because of his old age; the farmer that owned them told me that the dad was 12. Not wanting my eventual dog in the first place, I remember that I didn’t think that he was hyper enough, and I wanted a puppy that would keep up with me. Mine, or anyone else's opinion did not matter in the situation though, Mom wanted that particular…

It was about a week before summer break in 5th grade, and the sun's glowing rays shone on every tree and flower in sight. Despite the stunning nature of the outdoors, I was lounging in my bedroom, scanning through pictures of dogs on my iPad. I longed for a pet ever since I was five years old, but every time the concept of adopting one materialized, my mom's voice echoed in my head, saying "No Ashley, not a chance." However, I was not ready to abandon my dream, and my persistence remained tenacious.…

Everything was great at the beginning, but as time passed, we eventually realized that mom was right and that she was the one taking care of Gabriella now. She even helped her give birth in our bathroom one night. We woke up to find that we had five puppies: three boys, and two girls! As this was a reason to celebrate, we told our friends to come over at our house. They each picked up a puppy, name and dressed them in socks because that was all that we had in clothing that was so tiny.…

My sister, Chloe, has wanted a dog for as long as I can remember. Even at the age of three, she would always watch the cartoons with puppies in them, sometimes even have a fit when they were not airing. She would also always ask me for help when she wanted to prove she could take care of a dog, since I am pretty smart and have straight A's. Honestly I did not want to help her, because the truth is I hate dogs. I’ve seen what animals like these could do to people, so I don’t want to be near them.…

When my aunt brought home her first dog, Rayner, when I was six years old, I immediately felt a dog of our own was a necessity; however, my little brother Riley had just been born and my family felt that, to my great anguish, a dog was too much to take on. So, I continued my wait, forever searching for the perfect dog for our family. The arrival of my aunt’s second dog, Macey, gave my nine-year-old self an increased feeling of desire for a dog to call my own. But to my great dismay, my mom and dad still saw the timing as imperfect. For the next four years, I continued to write a dog on the top of my Christmas list, and continually pined my parents for my own “Rayner and Macey”.…
