Summary Of The Twrc's Volunteer Program

Decent Essays
When I first heard we could volunteer at a wildlife facility, I was definitely considering doing the project instead, because of my fear of animals. As I realized that the TWRC would be way easier in the long run than doing research and a project, I decided to take on the challenge of volunteering. The TWRC’s volunteer program and numerous activities that you can sign of for is quite the experience for any and every one. During my time as a volunteer I learned a lot about the TWRC and the animals it cares for. I chose to volunteer as a busy bee, which is assigned to do the general maintenance and cleaning up around the facility. It was through this position that I was able to experience firsthand the amount of work it takes to keep such an …show more content…
I believe the TWRC provides a great example to student of environmental science, because it shows us the how our actions within the environment, can affect other organisms that depend on it just as we do. Human’s continuous activities of destroying habitats is really what keeps places like the TWRC going because it leaves numerous animals with our shelter, food and other resources. The TWRC takes in all kinds of wildlife and nurtures them so that they can return them to their natural habitats. In the class we focus on the population sizes and what happens when certain animals are no longer present in certain ecosystems, The TWRC also can help students see this because if you think about all the different animals that the facility has brought in and was able to return to their natural habitat, you would be able to see how important of a role returning each and every animal back to their environment is. My experience this semester has shown me a lot in a short amount of time, about the importance of maintaining our environment. The TWRC’s volunteer experience opened me up to want to do more for the animals out there who need help recovering from injuries, to those that are just abandoned and need any help they can get. I enjoyed my experience and will keep in mind everything I learned, to ensure our environment and everything in it is taken care of properly and

At many stops, not that many animals were seen and the ones seen or dwelling there sum up to insignificant numbers when compared to the overflowing population in the world. There is an overwhelming number of humans on Earth who use up all the natural resources which leaves much less for the wildlife. With this mindset, one would feel that what the university is doing may not be enough with the downward direction the future of wildlife seems to be…

It is with great interest that I forward you my cover letter, resume and letters of recommendation for the consideration of the Program and Exhibit Animal Keeper Internship. My experience volunteering at the Denver Zoo for four years and knowledge gained in my first two years studying Wildlife Ecology and Management at Auburn University makes me an ideal candidate for the internship position this summer at the Downtown Denver Aquarium. Your mission “to support the goals of various wildlife agencies, cutting-edge programs, and other like-minded organizations that are focused on saving and protecting our planet's wildlife” resonated with me and as an intern I would commit myself to fulfill this mission and its core values of “supporting the conservation…

Leaders create new paths for others to follow through taking initiatives. During my grade 10 English Class, I created an infographic about women in India and the paved path of discrimination they are forced to walk upon. From being born into a world of stereotypes to facing oppression after marriage, women in most developing countries endure hardships. As a female of a visual minority, the horror of experiencing life in this environment angered me as this is not only morally incorrect, but physically incomprehensible. At this moment, I decided to take my first steps in tackling the issue of inequality through educating my community.…

If I had to choose only one activity to continue doing, then I would choose to continue volunteering at Sights and Sounds of Christmas. I would choose to continue volunteering at Sights and Sounds of Christmas for several reasons, one of them being because it is a local event that unifies and brings a lot of joy to my town during the holidays for one weekend Another reason for choosing this is that I always volunteer at the Santa Photobooth which is one of the biggest parts of Sights and Sounds. I say this because it is where families go to bring their children so they can see Santa and tell them what they want which makes them extraordinarily happy which is the whole reason we have Sights and Sounds. Also, I remember when I was a child visiting…

During my two volunteer experiences I participated in for the service learning portion of this class, I had the opportunity to witness many different walks of life. I was taken in on a side of poverty I’ve never before seen, and on a very intimate level. My first volunteer experience this semester was at a local food pantry, the Pratt-Quigley center. The neighborhood around the food pantry seemed very run down and poor. Shortly after arriving there, we were directed to the room where all the food was stored after it had been donated, waiting to be sorted.…
