Social and emotional learning influences many aspects of academic and social success (CASEL, 2016). Many techniques used in schools do not provide students the opportunity for personal growth. For this study in particular, the researchers used a combination of CCPT with social skills training lessons. This combination of services allowed for discussion about the importance of appropriate social skills and identity growth. Participants play in art form such as drawing, writing, playing a musical instrument, or dying hair different colors. As stated by the researcher, dying hair can be considered a form of exploration. Art allows for individuals to process and be reminded of their progress in times of struggle, especially when the art form produced physical products (Perryman et al., 2015). Additionally, aspects of CCPT allowed for the therapist to help the student’s process their feelings when creating art pieces. Overall, the researchers found that students had an increased self-awareness, creativity, personal growth, as well as improved communication and feelings of personal
