“ ‘Melinda,’ Mr. Freeman says. Snow filters into the car and melts on the dashboard. ‘You're a good kid. I think you have a lot to say. I’d like to hear it.’ ”

I close the door.

This part shows that Mr. Freeman is an amazing teacher and sees potential in her, which makes me disappointed that she doesn't see that potential herself. Her personality is sort of hurt and bored and she just accepts that nobody likes her. Throughout the story she beats down on herself and believes she can do nothing but be a loser, but she has so much potential that she only has to build up a little confidence to see in herself.

“ Nope. I don’t do parties. No thanks. I trot out excuses: homework, strict parents, tuba practice, late-night dentist appointment, have to feed the warthogs. I don’t have a good track record with parties.”

In my opinion, “The Green Glass Sea” by Ellen Klages is an amazing book. “The Green Glass Sea” is about a little girl named Dewey who goes to a place the book calls “The Hill” to live with her father. “The Hill” is the place where during World War II, scientists came together to help make the nuclear bombs, or as they call it, “the gadget,” that would be dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. All throughout the book, Dewey faces many problems such as adjusting to her new life, being bullied, and her father’s death. I think that the author's underlying message is, don’t judge someone without actually getting to know them.…
