The first place that we see the word “voice” is in the third line of the poem. The word is being used in a negative way within this line. The author says, “though the voices around you kept shouting their bad advice.” The author’s reaching out to the reader in this instance. In general, the author states how we are on a self-discovering journey. However, more specifically it is a journey that no one else can help us with. Those surrounding us are throwing their thoughts and advice at us. We lock our mind down and keep those words out because they will not help us on our new path in life. This word helps to further one of the multiple themes, self-discovery, because although there is a lot of outside influence, she knows it is not her path so she continues on past the negativity. This meaning depends upon similarities with other passages in order to gain meaning. …show more content…
In this context the word is being used in a desperate way. The author says, ““Mend my life!” each voice cried, but you didn’t stop.” Within this line the author is saying how others begged her to listen to their advice. I took it as them regretting parts of their lives. So in order to make up for what they hadn’t done, they tried to pass this on to the author so she could make it up for them. This word furthers the authors theme of self- discovery because it shows that no matter how hard the others begged, she continued on her own path and blocked out the others voices. According to scholar, J. A. Sharpe “The most efficacious way of dealing with a witch, at least in the eyes of contemporary officialdom was to accuse her before a court of law, and a number of cases in our sample show how bewitched people gained relief after their tormentors were sucked into the legal process”(Sharpe 11). The court systems during the European witchtrials changed drastically over time. In the beginning, hearsay was an important source of concrete evidence. Into the later Stuart period, hearsay became a less reliable source of evidence and witnesses as well as material evidence became more and more essential to convict someone suspected of witchcraft.…

There was a time When a free sun ran across cobalt And fields of lavender drifted o’er canopies of emerald trees To dissolve into the sky; wisps diluting sapphire to amethyst While radiance transformed our eyes in a flurry of colors Into shards of light, revolving around an epicenter of solid fixation And we spent hours staring; eyes glistening in fascination With not a care in the world Like Noah who sent a dove to bring back hope We were at peace with calm Not a matter to worry Nor a worry in mind Peacefully, Blissfully Then as time wove its tapestry in whirlwinds of flashes…

“If-” is repeated multiple times throughout the poem, and is often used to start each line. The word if, describes something that does not currently exist, or isn't present yet. Its use implies that something could potentially happen, or come to existence. Every stanza is filled with clauses the audience has not realized yet. The audience has not yet learned to “fill the unforgiving minute” (29) nor any of the other virtues listed out in the poem.…

Love is a strong and lasting affection between spouses or lovers who are in a happy, passionate and fulfilling relationship. It can also be an unbreakable bond sustained through all the ups and downs faced in life, an everlasting feeling. An unconditional form of the feeling is rare and is usually found between parent and child relationships. It is, without a doubt, the most discussed feeling in the world. The feeling has been the source of thoughts for many different poets since the beginning of time and has been portrayed in a variety of ways.…

“Voices” is first used to personify wind, and after she uses it to state she heard the voices of her dead children in the wind. Why did she repeat voices? What if she had heard instead the cries of her children in the wind? If the speaker had used two different words, the echo would be lost. The use of “voices” in two different cases makes the line more interesting, as if those voices are haunting us; following us.…

You can also feel a sense of loneliness as the Traveler speaks to the “phantom listeners”. The poem has a story to tell, and you are there to witness it, like the listeners who cannot say a word. “Beware: Do Not Read This Poem” uses a different kind of imagery. It uses mostly the sense of feeling. It tells you that the poem “has drawn in yr feet”, and goes on to tell you that the “poem is the reader and the reader this poem”.…

“The Scream” I really like this painting because somehow it involves mystery and insecurity and to my eyes, the rare views in it reflect a sense of how deep the feelings and thoughts of a person can be. In addition, the fact that the composition does not allow viewers to appreciate the face of the screaming person, is what has drawn me to it. Even though it seems to be that it was a lovely afternoon for everyone, it seems that it was not for the scared looking person. Although two boats are seen on the lake and two people walking very pleasingly behind, the scared looking person seems to be astonished and perhaps confused toward something. Hence, looking at this mysterious individual posing his hands on his face with his mouth open has given me the impression that he or she is appreciating something non real that no one else is able to notice; no one but him.…
