It’s a song about two lovers who loved each other dearly. Clichéd as it sounds, but it’s a song filled with love and at the same time sadness. It simply tells the narrative story from the first verse until the bridge. It says that the woman thought of “December, she thinks of when he asked her. He bent down on his knees first”. It gives the assumption that they’re already engaged to each other. As the woman waited for her fiancé, she got worried as time passed by because he was late, but then someone called her and told her that something happened. As the second verse came, it shows the emotions of what a woman in love was going through after hearing the tragic news about her fiancé—halls felt like a maze, barely hearing other people and trying to keep a straight face. “Pain behind my eyes, I turn into strength” means that it’s always possible to hardships into something positive such as strength to go on in order to, as the lyrics says, “fight and survive”. In the chorus, the self-encouraging confidence such as being invincible, unbreakable, unstoppable and such meant that being strong is possible. No matter what happen, may it be heartaches or facing fears, they are strong enough to overcome those trials “like a phoenix from the ash”. After all, a phoenix rises is reborn after it turns into ashes. Even if a person’s “walls” or defenses are “cracked” or is wavering, strength is still possible, thus it’s still possible to continue and there’s nothing that can make that person break or shatter. Self-worth is presented on the lines “No one’s gonna tell me I don’t matter”. All in all, this song is about self-confidence, self-worth, and strength of an individual.
