The Opposite Of Loneliness Analysis

"We don 't have a word for the opposite of loneliness, but if we did, I 'd say that 's how I felt at Yale" (4). Marina Keegan experiences a feeling that most people have felt before, but never had a name for it. It is not just one feeling, but it is many feelings combined to become one. It is the feelings of being loved, safe, happy, scared, and so forth. Keegan wrote about her experience with the particular feeling in her essay, "The Opposite of Loneliness". Keegan felt that particular feeling when she was at Yale University (1). She felt as if she had a profusion of people on her side, and like she was not alone. There were countless groups to join, and in these groups were people who made each other feel like he or she was a part of one community (1). That moment makes it feel like the whole world is not so bad after all, that everything was in its right place. Keegan wrote in her essay: "More than finding the right job or city or spouse, I 'm scared of losing this web we 're in. This elusive, indefinable, opposite of loneliness" (1). Not that she did not believe that finding a job or finding the one with whom she wants to spend her life with important, but she believes that the moments in which she is the happiest is more important (1). For me, Keegan 's essay brought back those special memories. She helped not only me but others realize that these moments will be the main points in life, and to cherish them as each person grows up and finds his or her place in this world. Keegan helped by making it clearer that each person has as much time as he or she wants, but as the time goes on it is up to them to either stand together or to move apart from each other.
