Difference Between George And Lennie Friendship

When living during a time of utmost gloom and travesty, weakness exists in almost every person. In this case, Lennie, having a mental disability, is most dependent on his friend Lennie. In the sixth section of the novel when Lennie accidentally breaks Curley’s wife’s neck during a time of confusion, fright, and frustration, he runs off back to the brush in the clearing near the Salinas River where George first told him to go if he ever got into trouble. As Lennie nears the pool of water, he self-consciously imagines his Aunt Clara speaking with his voice. In fact, George Milton and Lennie Small’s friendship compared with my best friend Katie’s and I friendship is that we have a shared past, raising together since a young age, as well as having a shared dream, which where our paths lie would never become different from each other.. A difference that exists between the protagonists’ friendship in the novel and my friend and I is that Lennie relies on George, while Katie and I are self-sufficient and do not look at others for assistance nor for things. With finding similarities and differences between the friendship during the thirties and one during the twenty-first century, it can be concluded that the friendship during The Great Depression was made for the sole reason of basic instinct and a need for survival, while today it is more for the reason that socialization needs to occur and stray away from boredom and loneliness. The friendships from different decades that were compared and contrasted proven that the relationship was able to begin for the reason of knowing each other since a young age and needing to find comfort however it may be. Most people overlook their friendships in today’s time, thinking that they only truly have themselves that understand everything about them, but looking back at a time of great struggle, a lesson can be learned, that all friendships do not have to be so close nor genuine, it simply has to do with having each others’ backs in order to survive day by
