Summary Of The Novel 'The Princess Bride'

The Princess Bride is a novel by William Goldman. It mixes true love and adventure together into one amazing masterpiece.
The story begins in the land of Florin, with Buttercup, one of the most beautiful women in the world. She is a simple milkmaid who takes pleasure in ordering the family's farm boy around. His name is Westley and he does whatever she asks, replying with a simple phrase, “as you wish”. One day, a man named Count Rugen hears of Buttercup’s beauty he takes his wife on a ride to go see Buttercup and is astonished by her beauty. Buttercup notices the Count’s wife looking at Westley and becomes jealous. She realizes that she is deeply in love with Westley. When she tells Westley how she feels, he decides to go to America and raise enough money to buy their own farm so they can live together. Buttercup receives a letter that Wesley's ship was taken over by the feared Dread Pirate Roberts. She knows that he was killed because the Dread Pirate Roberts never leaves survivors. She is devastated and slips into depression.

The prince is annoyed by the idea of having to find love and get married. All he wants to do is hunt and battle with all sorts of animals in his Zoo of Death. Count Rugen, wanting to help the prince, tells him of a woman with amazing beauty. Prince Humperdinck sets out with every intent on marrying this woman without the presence of true love. When the prince comes upon Buttercup, he too, is amazed. He asks to take her hand in marriage but she curtly refuses. He is persistent and she eventually agrees to marry him, but will not love

    Two important epiphanies in the Princess Bride by William Goldman are seen through the character of Buttercup when she realizes that she is in love with Westley and the character of Inigo when he realizes that he needs the man in black to help him storm the castle. When Buttercup saw how others acted around Westley she realized what her true feelings were, while Inigo realizes he needed Westley’s help after saw what a good sword fighter and thinker he was; both of these characters epiphanies helped progress each character.
