Summary Of The Novel 'Orca Soundings' By Kristin Butcher

In the novel “Orca Soundings” by Kristin Butcher, there is a group of boys who enjoy playing soccer in an abandoned parking lot. The group of boys all had tattoos, dressed in baggy clothes, and they only cared about themselves. Until one day when the group of guys were just sauntering down the street ready to play soccer, something made their stomachs drop. There was a newly constructed mall right where they played soccer. There was even a new convenient store next to it. They got filled with rage and began to plot their revenge on the new buildings. Even though a tragic event happened to them, one boy in the group named Johnny learns a valuable lesson throughout the novel. Kristen Butcher proves that no matter where you are or how tough times may get, by looking to the people you care about, and the ones you trust, anything is possible. …show more content…
“I knew he knew what I was buying the spray cans for, but he just rang them up, and even told me to have a nice day.” This quote shows how Johnny bought the paint cans to vandalize the convenient store, from the convenient store. Even though the old store owner knew what they were for he still sold them to him. “Was he planning something? Does he now have proof?” Johnny asked himself. There must have been something different about the store clerk that made Johnny question his decision to buy the paint cans from him? And there certainly was. At the end of chapter 5 beginning of six Johnny painted a door that looked very realistic and a window that had an appearance of light coming through it. “ If we stare at it hard enough then maybe someone might open it.” This quote shows how Johnny's “friends” don’t appreciate the real gift that he has.
