White Chicks: Farce and Purposeful Revenge of the Whiteface Controversy?
When many people hear of the Wayans Brothers movie White Chicks, they would inevitably picture the humorous scene where Terry Crews, being the physically huge, prideful jock he is, ironically does gestures and lip-syncs to Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” on his car radio. Everyone around me adores this particular movie with a passion, often quoting lines and reminiscing their favorite scenes. Moreover, White Chicks is and will forever be intact on our comedy list to watch on an ordinary Netflix night. I absolutely disagree with this statement. When watching the movie, I was able to pull out so many universal messages, advices, and lessons––– that for an ordinary person to be unable to detect at least one is exceptional. Firstly, White Chicks teaches us that hard work pays off and that cockiness will get you nowhere. In the first scene, Marcus and Kevin are undercovers as two Spanish owners of a store to catch drug-dealers. Unfortunately, their arrogance consume them and they mistakenly catch the wrong guys, wrecking their plans and threatening their jobs. Later on, they take on another job disguise as the Hampton sisters in order to catch their potential kidnappers. Their persistence, sincerity, and hard work leads to their success in finding the kidnappers and also leads to many gains as they learn from their mistakes and finish their job as better, understanding people. On the other hand, the mean girls that are rivals to the Hamptons are cocky because they get everything handed down to them; They end up getting punished and don’t receive their happy endings. Secondly, White Chicks taught us to be ourselves because sincerity matters. When Kevin foolishly steals Latrell’s identity in order to pursue a reporter, he becomes too overwhelmed with safekeeping those lies that he messes it up. Later on, when the truth unravels and Kevin commits a heroic action out of sincere love for the reporter, that is when she has the opportunity to realize his true feelings and accepts him for who he
