A book that I have enjoyed recently is The Martian by Andy Weir. The Martian starts with Mark Watney (Main Character) who is hit by a piece of a satellite antenna during a colossal sandstorm while trying to escape the Martian atmosphere. Watney’s captain tries to search for him but he is nowhere to be found and the crew presumes him dead. The next day he wakes up with part of the antenna lodged in his stomach. Over time NASA figures he is alive through satellite imaging. Mark eventually finds a way to contact NASA through an old Pathfinder probe. NASA then declares him alive but does not tell his crew so they can concentrate on the mission back to earth. NASA tells him to drive to another spaceship that was put there for the next Mars crew,

I thought that the technical description for Mars Curiosity Rover is organized fairly well in regards to the introduction, major parts and conclusion. When I began reading the description, it immediately started of with a definition of the subject. In the introduction, it lists the mission or (purpose statement), list of major parts in order, the importance of the subject, overall description and the main point. The major parts paragraphs also follow the same organized scheme.…

In the story “The Martian Chronicles,” By Ray Bradbury, there are many new frontiers that can relate to book The Martian Chronicles, but one seemed to really stand out to me. This stood out to me because of the difference it would make in the world if we did not have it today. The new frontier is modern day space. I came up with three different reasons why modern day space can relate to the book The Martian Chronicles. My reasons are the dangers of space, the benefits of space travel, and the technology used in space travel.…

In Trees On Mars, Hal Niedzviecki writes an expose on society's dangerous mentality concerning the future. Niedzviecki forms an argument describing the present obsession with the future, presented with evidence of the devastating impacts that innovation imposes on society, as highly dangerous. Niedzviecki argues the infiltration of innovation intoxicates the minds of society while imposing mass information to introduce an illusion of a promising future that obscures our present societal collapse. Innovation infiltration disrupts society -- destroying mental, physical, and institutional states. Niedzviecki includes a segment from an interview one reporter had with Michael Perry, an enthusiastic member "start-up" team who seems to express…

Humans are very curious. So it was completely natural for Ray Bradbury’s book, The Martian Chronicles, tries to show us the unforeseen consequences of such curiosity, only with exploring Mars. With almost the entire Martian race being wiped out by people, it’s no surprise that humans also almost wipe themselves out with atomic warfare. The consequences of the war and wiping out of almost the entirety of all races are huge and serious. I think the main message of the book is that humans have no idea their impact on their environment, colonization isn’t always a good thing, and that some people on Mars wanted to keep it the same.…

Fear is basically just an active imagination that comes to a person when creating the worst possible scenario. Imagining gruesome scenarios is kind of like a comfort because then you know what to expect. People don’t normally find themselves being happy when they are getting kidnapped. Fear allows people to imagine an unnatural scenario, which can blind them to act irrationally and unreasonably. In the book, The Martian Chronicles, written by Ray Bradbury, a chapter was introduced to us in a new perspective.…

I can relate to Mark Watney’s character in “The Martian”. Watney, a botanist and engineer, is stranded on Mars after he is presumed dead by his teammates. I could relate to Watney’s strategy in solving problem after problem to survive. Planning and creativity were key as he developed a conducive atmosphere and grew potatoes to sustain himself. Similarly, in my research and engineering projects, I always aim to develop creative, efficient solutions using tools I have, like using an iPhone’s camera to measure eye-tracker latency.…

When I read the book, The Martian, I was quite intrigued and could definitely spot the differences easily, like how Mark Watney describes his situation. It was more for comedic relief in my mind, but in the book, I see it as being more serious. I liked the movie as well. I loved seeing Matt Damon trying to work out everything his character came across like when he found Pathfinder and was able to contact NASA. Throughout the movie, Watney is found always the hero to himself, when in the book he fails and needs to experiment.…
