in “The Lesson” by Bambara race is a major discrepancy due to the strong language that is used to describe some characters. for example, miss Moore is described as a dark African American woman but in a more vulgar fashion. "Black as hell" Miss Moore in fact is well educated. the people in the story take advantage of that especially Silvia who seems to miss out on the concept of education. this story is a great example of social inequalities by exemplifying the cost of toys. “You know, Miss Moore, I don’t think all of us here put together eat in a year what that sailboat costs.” paraphrasing this Sugar depicts the social status of her African American family and community. the lesson that this story is trying to teach is that everyone has an
