This legend was made to describe the negative image of Spain during its most powerful period which was still uncertain to those who had not witnessed the Spanish colonization period. For the clarification of this legend, this synthesis paper aims to provide better understanding whether this legend was just a misconception or a reality. When a Filipino person hears the word “Spain”, the first word that would come up in his mind would be “colonizers”. The Spanish Empire ruled the Philippines for 333 years and had only ended when they sold the country to the Americans after they lost in the Spanish – American war; but it did not mean that every act that the Spaniards did was wrong. The Philippines had no religious belief before the Spaniards came, but soon was introduced to Catholicism by the Spaniards. Converting many countries into Catholicism was the one of the purpose of the Spanish colonization in many countries. Ever since the Catholicism had been spread in the Philippines, the Filipinos learned to live the Catholic life.
